To patients a bruise is far more than just a bleed under the skin. It can tell a story, a fall off of the bus, a bump on the head or an injury from an abusive husband or of course as a result of cosmetic procedures. Whichever it may be, it will require some form of explanation to friends, family or work colleagues. Take note of the patient that tells you, you bruised them at their last appointment. Listen and show you care and will try to avoid a repeat of this. There are ways in which you can reduce the effects of a bruise, as long as you identify it is likely after an injection and you can also reduce you patients’ negative response to it in the days after, by keeping them informed a bruise may occur, how it has happened and what you have done to reduce the severity.
