Aesthetic and functional implications related to this complication vary widely, at times the patient may not actually notice themselves and others its extremely severe.
In cases of the patient being unaware, they are mostly just pleased that the crow’s feet lines have been treated and therefore improved. But on closer examination of before and after photos, a cheek ptosis will be evident by the lateral upper most projection of the cheek being reduced. This results in a reduction of a beautiful appearance of the face and lack of eye expression.
In social situations we use facial expression and other non-verbal forms of communication to build rapport, relationships and to converse with others. It’s for this reason that reducing the risk of cheek ptosis is so important.
