Diagnosis
- Presence of at least one respiratory tract symptom; cough, sneeze, sore throat, runny nose
- Presence of at least two systemic symptoms; fever, chills, shivering, malaise, fatigue, aches, nausea and vomiting
- Onset within 10 days post procedure, usually sooner
- No nonrelated symptoms to flu such as urinary tract infection or upset stomach
- Consider already established low level infection before the patient arrived for their treatment
- It should be stressed to the patient that there is no clear way to differentiate weather symptoms have been triggered by the toxin or if underlying infection was present and should seek advice from GP if symptoms worsen.
